Scenes & Skenes, the theatrical team comprised of amateur actors with 12 different nationalities and backgrounds who work abiding by professional criteria, after the tremendous success of their first theatrical production are bringing now to Dubai The Birds by Aristophanes: the first an- cient Greek comedy ever held in the GCC.

On Saturday May 28th “The Birds” (Gr: “Ornithes”) are coming to life in DUCTAC. The historic play was first performed in 414 BCE at the City Dionysia festival, where it won second prize. The story follows Pisthetaerus, a middle-aged Athenian who persuades the world's birds to cre- ate a new city in the sky (thereby gaining control over all communications between men and gods), and is himself eventually miraculously transformed into a bird-like god figure himself, and replaces Zeus as the pre-eminent power in the cosmos.

The longest of Aristophanes' surviving plays, “The Birds” is a fairly conventional example of Old Comedy, and has been acclaimed by some modern critics as a perfectly realized fantasy, re- markable for its mimicry of birds and for the gaiety of its songs. By the time of this production, in 414 BCE, Aristophanes had become recognized as one of Athens' leading comic playwrights.

I couldn’t feel any prouder to be able to bring it to Dubai with a team of 25 young people from all over the world sharing the same enthusiasm as the greeks” , Vicky Koumoutsou, the Director of the play says.

Under the magical melodies of Manos Chatzidakis, one of the greatest composers of modern Greece, you will enjoy 100 minutes of an escapist entertainment, amusing dialogues, pleasing lyrical interludes, and charming choreographs and pretty dresses and you will experience the most authentic theatrical play.
